Military cruise discounts are the most established eligibility rates at sea, and also the most detailed. Each line defines “military” a little differently, asks for different proof, and decides whether the rate stretches to spouses, veterans and extra cabins. Here is what the major lines publish, checked on their own pages in October 2026.

How to Book a Military Rate Without Losing It

  • Verify first if the line uses an online check (ID.me, for example). It takes minutes and avoids a stalled booking.
  • Make sure the military guest is in the cabin and named as a guest on that stateroom.
  • Ask for the military fare and the best public promotion on the same cabin category, then compare totals including taxes and port fees.
  • Carry the original ID or DD 214 to the terminal; a photocopy or a photo on your phone may not be accepted.
  • Booking several cabins for a reunion? Ask which cabins can carry the rate before anyone pays a deposit — a group rate may suit the others better.

Military Cruise Discounts vs. the Current Sale

A military rate is a fixed percentage or fare level; a sale is whatever the line decided this week. During big promotional periods such as Wave Season, the public offer occasionally lands below the military fare, or adds perks the military fare excludes. Running both numbers is the only way to know. Our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise do this automatically when you mention your service in a quote request, and they can hold several cabins for a unit, squadron or reunion through Group Cruise Planner.

Military and Veteran Cruise Discounts: FAQ

Do veterans qualify for military cruise discounts?

Often, but the definition matters. Royal Caribbean’s FAQ, for example, accepts veterans with an honorable discharge after at least two years of service or six months in an active war zone, shown with a DD 214. Norwegian’s Military Appreciation Program covers veterans as well as active members after ID.me verification.

Can my parents or friends book the military rate in their own cabin?

Generally no. Royal Caribbean states that family and friends are not eligible unless the military guest occupies the stateroom. Carnival has historically let a military guest book additional cabins on the same sailing, so check each line’s current terms.

Does the military rate combine with other promotions?

Sometimes. Norwegian says its year-round military discount combines with its Free at Sea perks but not with its own limited-time enhanced military offer. Other lines treat the military fare as a stand-alone rate. Ask for both prices.
